LUFKIN, April 17, 2013-- The UT Tyler women's golf team's magical run to the 2013 American Southwest Conference Championship ended in a second-place finish. The Patirots had won two tournaments in-a-row, and held the lead after the first round of the championship in Lufkin.
The Patriots finished 26 strokes behind back-to-back women's champions Mary Hardin-Baylor, the No. 1 ranked team in the country.
Freshman Laura Lindsey led the way for UT Tyler, finishing in fifth-place after firing a combined 166 (82-84) for the tournament.
Jordan Sloane finished in seventh-place, firing a 168 (81-87) over two days, while teammate Katie Crawford finished in tenth with a combined 172.
Marina Rhodes finished in a tie for 11th with a 176, while Jordan Sloane finished in 20th with a 183.
The Patriots finished five strokes ahead of third-place Schreiner, while Hardin-Simmons, Texas Lutheran and Concordia finished fourth through sixth.
UT Tyler will now await the bids for the 2013 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, May 14-17 at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Sandestin, Florida.
