TYLER, April 25, 2013-- The UT Tyler women's golf team is ranked as the No. 10 team in the country according to Golfstat, and now awaits an at-large bid for the 2013 National Championship. The Patriots finished as runners-up last week at the ASC Championship in Lufkin.
The No. 10 ranking is the highest the Patriots have enjoyed at the end of the regular season in the program's history.
UT Tyler's second-place finish came to No. 1 ranked Mary Hardin-Baylor, which pushed the Cru into an automatic bid into the national championship in Florida next month.
The Patriots are the second-highest ranked team (No. 6 George Fox) in the country that did not win an automatic bid by winning their conference tournament.
Head coach King Campbell commented "an at-large bid has usually been given to a non-automatic qualifier that is in the top-10 national rankings".
"We have an impressive resume, beating No. 1 UMHB and nationally-ranked Schreiner earlier this season, and an impressive finish at the Jekyll Invite earlier this year", added Campbell.
The NCAA will make the announcement of the 2013 national title field on May 6, with the tournament taking place at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida.
