TYLER, January 17, 2014— The first-place UT Tyler women's basketball team jumped on Mississippi College early and did not let up, defeating the Lady Choctaws 83-46 on Thursday evening. The Patriots shot 50-percent of their shots on the night, while Brittany King scored 20 in the win.
The Patriots (12-2, 10-1) jumped out to a 20-4 lead on a Taylor Murphy three-pointer at the 12:13 mark, and the team did not look back.
Freshman Makenzi May ended the first half with a layup, extending the Patriots' lead to 41-18 at the half, their largest lead after one half of the season.
In the second half, the Patriots continued to roll, going up by as many as 37 points, before securing the 83-46 lead.
Junior Brittany King led all-scorers with 20 points, going 8-11 from the field, while freshman Madison Wilson scored 15.
She'Cara Humphrey added 10 points, making 5-7 shots from the field, while also hauling-in five rebounds.
UT Tyler out-rebounded the Lady Choctaws 44-29, while making seven three's to MC's one.
The Patriots will take the court again on Saturday, against Louisiana College.
