TYLER, January 3, 2014— The UT Tyler women's basketball team remained perfect in American Southwest Conference play, defeating Sul Ross State 85-43 on Thursday evening. The Patriots are now 7-0 in the conference for the first time in program history.
The Patriots (9-1, 7-0) fell behind 5-4 in the opening minutes of the game, but responded with an impressive 23-5 run over the next 10 minutes of play.
UT Tyler went up by as many as 19 points in the first half, after Brittany King hit a pair of layups to make it 32-13 with 3:43 to play in the first.
Sul Ross (1-9, 0-7) was able to cut the lead to 37-23 on a Gabriela Aguilar layup to end the first half.
In the second half, the Patriots were simply too much for the Lobos, extending their lead to 66-36 (29-13 run) at the 5:58 mark of the second half.
UT Tyler would extend that lead to 42 points on a pair of Ashleigh Dykes free throws, bringing the score to the final, 85-43.
In the win, the Patriots' bench scored 22 points to the Lobos 11, shooting 45-percent to Sul Ross' 25-percent for the game.
Five UT Tyler women scored in double-digits, led by Jasmin Baskin who scored a season-high 18 points, followed by King who scored 16.
Teylor Seals, She'Cara Humphrey and Leslie Thronburg each added 10 points, while King finished with 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.
The women will now travel to Brownwood to take on Howard Payne at 1 p.m., on Saturday, January 4.
