TYLER, February 7, 2014-- The UT Tyler women's basketball team continued its roll through the American Southwest Conference, defeating Howard Payne 67-41 on Thursday. She'Cara Humphrey led the way with 23 points, while Brittany King recorded another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.
Howard Payne (12-8, 11-6) started the game on a short 5-0 run, but the Patriots (17-3, 15-2) answered with a 36-15 run over the rest of the first half.
Leading 36-20 at the half, UT Tyler continued to turn up the heat, going up by as many as 27 in the second half, with 12 players seeing action in the win.
Humphrey was solid throughout, hitting on 10-of-15 shots, including 2-for-2 from the charity stripe, while hauling-in seven rebounds.
King registered her seventh double-double on the year, continuing to add to her league-leading 9.6 rebounds per game.
The Patriots held the Lady Jackets to just 30-percent shooting for the game, and just 20-percent from beyond the arc.
Not only did the fans enjoy the ladies' win, they also enjoyed hundreds of pieces of succulent bacon provided by Aramark.
UT Tyler will hit the court again on Saturday against Sul Ross State at 1 p.m. at the Herrington Patriot Center in Tyler.
