LOUISVILLE, April 17, 2014-- The most recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top-25 Poll was released today, and the UT Tyler softball team remains at No. 3 for the second-straight week. The Patriots have been ranked in the NFCA Top-25 in 49 straight weeks since the beginning of 2011.
UT Tyler (32-2, 26-1) has won an impressive 12-straight games in American Southwest Conference play, giving up a paltry 0.42 points per contest in that span.
The Patriots' pitching staff is one of the nation's best, as sophomore Kelsie Batten and freshman Alaina Kissinger have become an impressive one-two punch.
Batten, an All-American last season, has compiled a 20-2 record, striking out 79 batters, with a 0.65 ERA. She has gone 23.1 innings without giving up a run, and 49.1 without giving up an earned run.
Equally impressive has been Kissinger, the freshman from Telephone, Texas has gone 12-0 with a 0.54 ERA, tops in the ASC and top-five in the nation.
As a staff, the Patriots rank first in the ASC with a 0.80 ERA, which also ranks second in NCAA Division III.
The offense ranks first in the conference with a .366 team average, ranking first in the league with 239 runs-scored and third in homeruns with 23.
Jackie Mendez leads the team with a .433 average, eight homeruns and is tied for the lead in RBI with 30.
Salisbury (31-1) picked up all eight first-place votes, followed by Montclair State (25-1) at No. 2.
Tufts (21-3) and Trine (24-1) round out the top-five, while two teams the Patriots have defeated this season, Linfield (31-7) and East Texas Baptist (29-5) rank sixth and seventh respectively.
UT Tyler will play six more regular season games, beginning with a three-game set against Ozarks, beginning Thursday, at 3 p.m., in Clarksville, Arksansas.
