SAN ANTONIO, February 13, 2014— The No. 5 ranked UT Tyler softball team opened 2014, with a convincing two-game sweep of Trinity University, winning 7-0, 12-0 on Wednesday evening.  In the sweep, newcomer Ashlee Begis racked up six hits, two runs and three doubles.

Game two was much of the same for the Patriots, blasting 18 hits in seven innings and scoring in each inning except the fifth.

Shelby Shelton got things started in the first, doubling-in Lauren Robenalt to make the score 1-0 after one half inning played.

The Patriots added three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a pair of RBI doubles by Geiger and Robenalt respectively, making the score 4-0.

In the third, Begis added another RBI with her second double of the night, followed by a Kierin Stevens RBI single, making the score 6-0 UT Tyler.

After a Carrizales sacrifice fly in the fourth that scored Shelton who reached on a triple, the Patriots led 7-0 over the over-matched Tigers.

The floodgates opened wider in the sixth, as the Patriots belted six hits en route to scoring five runs.

Robenalt had the big hit of the inning, a two-run double, while Rodriguez, Jessica Mendez and Carrizales each added RBIs in the inning.
