GREENSBORO, NC, May 14, 2014-- The UT Tyler men's golf team started its defense of the 2013 National Title, finishing day one at the 2014 National Championship in a tie for fourth-place. The Patriots shot a combined 291, putting the men just six strokes off the lead, currently held by Schreiner.
Sophomore Buddy Hallman, who finished as National Runner-Up a season ago, finished the day in just one stroke behind in medalist competition, shooting a blistering 68.
Chapman Herwood shot a 73, finishing the round in a tie for 32nd, while freshman Cody Gilbert shot a 74, putting him in a tie for 47th place.
Alex Trivanovich finished the day in a tie for 83rd with a 76, while Dayton Cargill shot 79, placing him in a 130th-place tie.
Schreiner University shot a combined 285 in round one, taking the lead after day one, while Methodist (286) and LaGrange (290) round out the top three.
Hope College finished the day tied with UT Tyler, while Rhodes sits in sixth-place.
Round two will begin tomorrow, with the Patriots teeing off at approximately 6:30 a.m., Central time.
