TYLER, March 25, 2014— The UT Tyler men's golf team shot a combined 612 in the first two rounds of the John Davis Group-UTD Classic, good enough for a first-place finish after two rounds of play. The Patriots will try to hold on to the lead in the final round which begins Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.
UT Tyler was led by sophomore Buddy Hallman, who finished the day in a tie for first, shooting 76-73 (149) over the first two rounds.
Alex Trivanovich had a strong first-day, shooting 75-75 (150), putting him one stroke behind the first-place golfers.
Last week's American Southwest Conference Golfer of the Week, Chapman Herwood, shot 79-73, placing him in fifth-place after the first two rounds.
Freshman Gody Gilbert and Dayton Cargill rounded out the top-five for the Patriots, shooting 161 and 165, good enough for 18th and 26th place respectively.
The Patriots lead Mary Hardin-Baylor (619) by seven strokes, followed by Schreiner (621), Concordia-Tx (627) and Texas-Dallas Green (643).
Louisiana College (647) finished the day in sixth, followed by Sterling College (677), LeTourneau (693), Texas-Dallas Orange (698) and the Univ. of Dallas (859).
The final round of the John Davis Group-UTD Classic will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday
