TYLER, May 7, 2013-- The UT Tyler men's and women's golf teams will participate in the 2013 NCAA DIII National Championship tournament. Both the men's and women's national championships will take place at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Florida.
The UT Tyler men were chosen as an at-large team in the 41 team event, and are currently ranked as the No. 15 team in the country.
UT Tyler is coming off a runner-up finish at the 2013 American Southwest Conference championship tournament in which the team shot a combined 943 which was 22 strokes behind champion Schreiner.
Senior John Dukes and Joey Rippel will have one more chance to play for the Blue and Orange, and look to improve upon last season's sixth-place national finish.
The UT Tyler women's golf team also received an at-large bid into the national tournament after finishing as runners-up at the ASC tournament.
UT Tyler is currently ranked in the top-10 nationally, and are making their second straight NCAA tournament appearance.
Earlier this season, the ladies finished first at the West Region Invite in Central Texas, defeating two of the top teams in the country, Mary Hardin-Baylor and Schreiner.
Play begins at 8 a.m., eastern time at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort from May 14-17.
