UT Tyler Cross Country teams ready to defend ASC championships

TYLER, August 27, 2014— The UT Tyler men's and women's cross country teams are ready for the 2014, looking to defend the American Southwest Conference championships they won a year ago.  The season gets underway this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the King Campbell Spectacular in Tyler.

Last season, the UT Tyler women won their second ASC championship in program history, led by Carly Kitts, who won the individual championship, while head coach Grant Spencer was named Coach of the Year.

This year, the ladies welcome back seven All-ASC performers from a year ago, making the Patriots one of the favorites to notch the 2014 championship.

UT Tyler's men won their eighth ASC championship in program-history, including their seventh in-a-row, led by head coach Bob Hepler who begins his 10th season at the helm.

The Patriots welcome back a pair of all-region runners, including Matthew Markert and Conner Benson, who look to lead UT Tyler to the 2014 crown.

The season kicks off on Friday, August 29, at 7:30 p.m., with the King Campbell Spectacular on the campus of UT Tyler.

UT Tyler will also host the Braveheart Invitational on Friday, September 5, at 6:30 p.m., on the campus of UT Tyler.

Both teams will take part in the Wilmington College Pre-Nationals on Saturday, September 27, including a Pre-Regional race in Georgia at Berry College on Saturday, October 18.

The Patriots will race in numerous other events throughout the fall, aiming for a shot at the ASC Championship, hosted by UT Tyler on Saturday, November 1.
