RICHARDSON, May 13, 2014-- The UT Tyler baseball team had nine players voted onto the 2014 All-American Southwest Conference teams, the league office announced on Monday. Senior Billy Lirely was named the ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, while Buddy McCoy was named First Team All-ASC.
Lirely, a senior, started 39 games for the Patriots this season racking up 38 hits with 17 RBI and 17 runs scored, and also garnered Honorable Mention All-ASC honors. He hit .288 at the plate had 44 total bases. Defensively, Lirely had a .984 fielding percentage and had only one error in 59 putouts.
First-year standout Buddy McCoy was named First Team All-ASC, while leading the team in hits (48), doubles (12) and total bases with 63.
Reid Coover was named Second Team All-ASC, hitting .318 with 41 hit, six doubles and 26 RBI.
Senior pitcher Jake Beam took home Third Team All-ASC honors, finishing the year with a 2.80 ERA and a 4-6 record, while striking out 71 batters.
Dillon Berry, Sam Lane, Lirely and pitchers Michael Blevins, Patrick Michon and Josh Holley were each named All-ASC Honorable Mention.
UT Tyler placed nine players on the All-ASC list, tying for third-most in the conference with LeTourneau.
