TYLER, March 12, 2014-- The UT Tyler baseball team scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game, but were unable to hold on, falling to NAIA-opponent Belhaven University 5-2 on Tuesday. The Patriots' seven hits came from seven-different players in the loss.
The Blazers (21-4) got the scoring started in the third, as Rutledge and Pickerrell each knocked in a run, making it 2-0 Belhaven.
UT Tyler (7-9) answered back in the fourth, as Buddy McCoy singled in Warren Neely who reached on a single.
The Patriots were not done, tying the game at 2-2 in the fifth, as Sam Lane singled in Dillon Berry.
Belhaven scored the go-ahead run in the seventh on another Pickerrell single, making the score 3-2.
Trailing 5-2 in the ninth, and with two outs, UT Tyler's Garrett Nelson and Steven Paramore singled, but the rally was cut short.
Five UT Tyler pitchers saw action, with reliever Tyler Stallings picking up the loss.
Belhaven's Pickerrell finished the day with two hits, three RBI and two base on balls.
The Patriots will now head east to take on Louisiana College in Pineville in a three-game series, beginning on Friday, March 14, at 6 p.m.
