TYLER, August 1, 2013-- The 2013-14 UT Tyler Athletics season begins in less than a month, and five programs, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country and volleyball are up first. The Fall season begins Friday, August 30, with volleyball, women's soccer and cross country all in action.
UT Tyler's women's soccer team had a historic season in 2012, and will look to breakthrough to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 2013.
The Patriots open the season on Friday, August 30, at 7 p.m., against out-of-conference opponent Hendrix, who the ladies defeated in last season's season-opener 4-2. UT Tyler will have two more home non-conference games before conference-play starts, hosting Texas Lutheran and The University of Dallas on September 7, and 17.
Trinity, who finished ranked No. 4 in NCAA DIII last season, will host the Patriots on September 13, in San Antonio, with UT Tyler looking to avenge a 1-0 loss to the No. 6 ranked Tigers last season.
American Southwest Conference play begins September 28, with a showdown against rival East Texas Baptist at 6 p.m., in Tyler. The regular season will end November 2, with a home date with LeTourneau beginning at 1 p.m., in Tyler.
The UT Tyler men's soccer team opens the 2013 season with three-straight home dates beginning September 1, at 4 p.m., against Millsaps. The Patriots will then host out-of-state opponent Whitworth on September 7, and Austin College on September 8.
After seven out-of-conference opponents to open the season, the men will open ASC-play against East Texas Baptist on Saturday, September 28, at 8 p.m., in Tyler.
The Patriots have 10 conference matches on the year, with the regular season ending with a match against LeTourneau on November 2, at 3 p.m., in Tyler.
Last season's ASC Champion men's cross country team and the UT Tyler women's team will open their season in Tyler, on August 30, in the King Campbell Spectacular beginning at 6:30 p.m. The Patriots will race one more time at home the following week on Saturday, September 6, at the UT Tyler Invitational.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will compete in numerous events throughout the year, including the Rogue Grass Routes Run Festival in Austin on September 27, and the Christopher Newport Invite in Newport News, Virginia on October 12.
The 2013 ASC Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Hardin-Simmons on November 2, in Abilene.
UT Tyler volleyball is also looking to breakthrough in 2013, after finishing in fourth-place in the ASC east division last season.
The Patriots open the year at the Texas Lutheran tournament on August 30, with a showdown against fellow ASC member Sul Ross State at 11 a.m. UT Tyler will also face St. Joseph's College (NY), Texas Lutheran and Houston College on the opening weekend of the season.
The ladies will head to Memphis, Tennessee for the Rhodes College Invitational from September 14-15, with matchups against Maryville College (TN), Hendrix, Austin College and Rhodes.
Conference play will begin September 20, with a showdown with rival Texas-Dallas in Richardson, with the conference home-opener scheduled for Friday, October 11, at 1 p.m., with Mary Hardin-Baylor.
Fans are invited to kickoff the 2013-14 season on Saturday, August 24, at the Ford Tailgate Series Orange and White Weekend. The soccer and volleyball alumni teams will be in action, along with free food, a movie at the field, the UT Tyler Pep Band and live music.
