Texas Series Baseball Tournament in Longview

LONGVIEW, July 13, 2014— Players representing 27 baseball teams from across the state will be arriving in Longview on Friday, July 11, with the hopes of becoming state champions.

The teams will participate in the Ranger Youth Baseball “Texas Series,” a state tournament for 14-Under baseball players Saturday - Thursday, July 12-17, 2014. Games will be played at Longview’s Lear Park Baseball Complex, 100 H.G. Mosley Pkwy.

The tournament features three divisions: 14-Under, 14-Under Jr. (small leagues) and 13-Under. Ten teams will compete in both the 14-Under and 14-Under Jr. divisions, and seven squads will battle for the 13-Under title.

The teams came from among 64 leagues which played this fourth season in the Ranger Youth Baseball organization for 14-Under baseball players. Charles Williams serves as the State Chairman and will be the tournament director. Wesley Edge is the local chairman for Longview Boys Baseball, which is joining forces with the City of Longview Parks and Recreation Dept. to host the state event. The tournament will be double-elimination in all three divisions.

Festivities kick off Friday evening at Lear Park with opening ceremonies to welcome the participating teams along with dinner. Local officials are offering a variety of baseball-related contests like long ball hitting, base running and around-the-horn throwing.

Tournament play gets under way Saturday, July 12 in the three brackets. There will be five bracket games played Saturday in the 14-Under divisions, four games in both of those groups on Sunday, July 13 while the 13-Unders will feature three games both Saturday and Sunday.

Games continue at Lear Baseball Complex Monday through Wednesday, July 14-16, with the final 13-Under games being played on Wednesday . Both 14-Under title matchups are scheduled for Thursday, July 17.
