Tennis Teams Take Matches with MC, 9-0, 8-1

TYLER, April 8, 2013--The UT Tyler men's and women's tennis teams continued the American Southwest Conference schedules, sweeping Mississippi College 9-0, 8-1 on Sunday afternoon.  The win moves the men to 2-0 in the ASC while the women move to 1-1.

The UT Tyler women went up 3-0 after doubles play, with Jessica Blundell and Jennifer Payne teaming up to win No. 1 doubles.

Haley Albro and Nicole Musngi won in No. 2 play, while Emily Evans and Katy Zagurski won in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.

The Patriots took five of six matches in singles play, with Blundell and Payne winning in No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively.

Musngi and Warren won at No. 3 and 4, while Albro won 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles.

On the men's side, Ryan Ybarra and Daniel Brown continued their stellar play in doubles, winning 8-3.

Ryan Spencer and Kevin Singer also won at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, while teammates Jonathon Karsten and John Ward won 8-6.

UT Tyler swept the singles competition against the Choctaws, highlighted by Ramon Martinez winning 6-3, 6-3 and Daniel Budd winning 6-3, 6-1.

Both teams will head to Arkansas to take on Ozarks in another ASC showdown, beginning at 1:00 p.m., on Monday.
