PALESTINE, July 22, 2013—Palestine YMCA Piranhas Chase Fields, age 10, and Kacie, Kimbrough, also age 10, both raced to first place individual high point trophy wins during the East Texas Summer Swim League (ETSSL) All-Stars Meet hosted by the Longview Swim Club in the Solheim Center at Le Tourneau University in Longview, last Saturday.
To qualify for All-Stars, each athlete must swim in at least two ETSSL regular meets and finish in the top sixteen in at least one event at the annual Champs Meet. The Champs Meet was held at the Lufkin Swim Center and hosted by the Ambush Swimming Team of the Boys and Girls Club on July 13. Over 450 athletes competed for the right to compete at All-Stars.
Fields won the boys 9 – 10 year-old high point trophy with across the board first place finishes for three gold medals in 25 freestyle, 100 yard individual medley, and 25 yard breaststroke.
Kimbrough captured her individual high point trophy in the girls 9 – 10 year-old age group with two first places in 25 yard freestyle and 25 yard breaststroke. She touched the wall in 25 yard butterfly for third place.
Joining Fields and Kimbrough in taking home third place high point trophies were Braedan Harris (7), Madison Crader (11), and Summer Hagan (13).
According to Newton, although the ETSSL program is over for the year, a select group of Piranhas will continue to test their skills over the next two weeks in two different venues. On July 25 – 28, Fields and Kimbrough, along with seven of their teammates will be representing the Palestine YMCA in Frisco, Texas for the Lone Star 2013 YMCA Texas State Swim Championship. On August 1 – 2, Crader and Hagan will be representing Texas at the State Games of America Swimming Championship in Hershey-Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
