TYLER, December 19, 2013-- The UT Tyler men's basketball team won its third-straight game, defeating American Southwest Conference-rival LeTourneau 75-61 on Tuesday evening. Four different Patriots scored in double-figures on the night, led by Joe Stephens who scored 17 and added six rebounds.
UT Tyler (4-3, 3-2) trailed 4-0 early to the Yellowjackets (2-5, 1-3), but answered back with a 17-6 run, taking a 17-10 lead at the 11:14 mark of the first half.
The Patriots retained the lead until LeTourneau tied the score at 24-24 on a pair of Zach Driver free throws with 2:07 remaining in the first half.
UT Tyler then rallied back, scoring six-straight points to close out the half, highlighted by a DeMarcus Metcalf three-pointer with :18 seconds remaining.
After taking a 30-24 lead at the half, the Patriots raced out to a 12-point lead just four minutes into the second half when Tre Potter hit a three-pointer, giving UT Tyler a 42-30 lead.
The Yellowjackets were able to cut the Patriots' lead to 58-52 with 7:40 to play, but that would be as close as they would get.
Travis Dykman hit a dagger with 7:10 remaining, giving the Patriots a 61-52 lead, which would extend to 75-61 over the remaining minutes.
UT Tyler finished the game shooting 43-percent from the field, including 36-percent from beyond the three-point line.
Stephens finished with a team-high 17 points, while Metcalf finished with 14, Potter with 11 and Dykman with 10.
Bryce Kemp had another balanced game, finishing with seven points and nine rebounds which was the high total for the team.
LETU's Ladaria Brown finished with a game-high 19 points, while Aaron Frizell and Justin Jones finished with 14 and 10 points respectively.
The Patriots will take the court again in a showdown with East Texas Baptist at 7:30 p.m., on Thursday, December 19.
