Palestine Piranha Crader has award-winning season

PALESTINE, August 15, 2014— Palestine YMCA Piranha Madison Crader earned a trip to the 2015 State Games of American (SGA) in Lincoln, Nebraska.  Crader was the silver medalist with her best time of 36.32 in the Girls 11 – 12 50 yard breaststroke during the recent Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (TAAF) Games of Texas Swimming Championship at the Bryan Aquatic Center.  The Games were hosted by the cities of College Station and Bryan in collaboration with Texas A & M University from July 31 to August 3.

Last year, Crader and Piranha teammate Summer Hagan, represented Texas in the 2013 State Games of American in Hershey / Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The SGA is organized under the leadership of the National Congress of State Games and is a biennial Olympic-style event comprised of medal winners from states, like Texas, who conduct their own statewide sports festivals.  The intent is to offer competition opportunities for both the Olympic-bound and the recreational athlete in a wide variety of sports.

Over 8000 athletes competed in the Summer Games in Bryan-College Station participating in archery, baseball, bowling, boxing, disc golf, golf, lifeguard competition, skateboarding, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track and field.

Crader’s SGA journey began with the TAAF Region 6 Qualifier hosted by the Cain Center Megalodons of Athens on July 18.  An individual must place in the top three in an event to advance to the State Games.  Crader swam to gold medals in the Girls 11 – 12 50 yard breaststroke and in the 50 yard freestyle.  She took the silver in the 50 yard butterfly.

Hagan also qualified at the TAAF Region 6 meet and joined Crader in competing for another trip to the SGA, but fell short of the medals this year.  She did,  however,  put in a respectable showing by placing among the top ten in the Girls 13 -14 50 yard backstroke, 50 yard  freestyle, and the 100 yard Individual Medley.
