No. 15 UT Tyler men's tennis remains perfect with 2-0 weekend

TYLER, February 24, 2014-- The No. 15 ranked UT Tyler men's tennis team hosted Southwestern and McMurry on Saturday, winning 9-0, 6-3 to remain undefeated in 2014.  On the year, the Patriots are 4-0 overall, and 1-0 in the American Southwest Conference.

Against Southwestern, the Patriots  did not drop a set, with No. 1 doubles team Harry Kelleher and Chris Wootton winning 8-1.

At No. 2 doubles, Daniel Budd and Ryan Spencer teamed up to win 8-3, while Ramon Martinez and Justin Randell won 8-2 at No. 3.

In singles, Doug Kierstead, Jack Puckey, Drew Reid, Jacob Van Der Schans, Rob Houdous and Ryan Elwood each won their singles matchups in decisive fashion.

Later on Saturday, the Patriots squared off against former ASC-rival, and current NCAA Division II McMurry, winning 6-3.

Martinez won 7-6, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Budd won 6-1, 6-1 at No. 2 singles over the Warhawks.

Harry Kelleher and Ryan Spencer also notched wins in singles, while No. 1 and No. 3 doubles each notched a win for the home team.

UT Tyler will now prepare to host Tyler Junior College and Incarnate Word beginning at 2 p.m., on Friday, February 28, in Tyler.
