Nine men named All-ASC, Bizot honored as Coach of the Year

TYLER, April 29, 2014-- The 2014 American Southwest Conference Men's Tennis teams were announced Monday (April 28) by the league office. UT Tyler had nine All-ASC selections, the most in the conference while coach Bizot was named Coach of the Year.

Coach Bizot helped lead the Patriots to an undefeated mark in ASC-play, winning the regular season and conference tournament championships.

The Patriots are the only ASC men's team to win at least 20 matches overall in each of the last two seasons.

Texas-Tyler sophomore Justin Randell (San Antonio, Texas/Clark HS) received Newcomer of the Year honors after posting an undefeated mark in singles (7-0) and doubles (6-0) in conference play.

Randell, a first team singles and doubles selection, won matches in three different singles flights recording 14 wins overall. Randell also paired with four different partners in doubles play to win 13 matches overall.

Texas-Tyler senior Ryan Spencer (Katy Texas/Seven Lakes HS) was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.

A first-team singles and doubles selection, Spencer recorded perfect marks against conference opponents in singles (6-0) and doubles (8-0) play. Spencer also won 16 matches overall in singles and doubles competition.

Casey Clark (Plano, Texas/Plano HS) received the league's highest honor after recording an 8-1 record against conference opponents and a 10-3 mark overall at No. 1 singles. Clark was also named to the doubles second team at the No. 1 position after going undefeated in conference play (8-0) and was 11-2 overall.

Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman Scott Wilding (College Station, Texas/A&M Consolidated) was named ASC Freshman of the Year. Wilding recorded a 6-3 mark in league play at No. 1 singles and was 7-5 overall. In No. 1 and 2 doubles Wilding amassed a 4-4 mark in conference competition and was 5-6 overall.

Texas-Tyler led all teams with nine all-conference selections in addition to three award winners. The Patriots recorded six singles selections, including four first-team members, and landed all three flights on the doubles first-team.
