LONGVIEW, April 3, 2013— The UT Tyler men's golf team fired a combined 302 in the final round of the LeTourneau Spring Classic, finishing two strokes behind first-place finishers St. Thomas. Senior John Dukes led the way, finishing in a tie for fifth-place after firing a 146 for the tournament.
The Patriots finished the first day in the lead, but could not hold off St. Thomas' 297 on the final day.
After Dukes, Buddy Hallman finished in seventh-place with a 148, while teammate Joey Rippel finished in ninth after a final-round 77.
Trent Boudoin had a top-ten finish, firing a combined 151 while Dayton Cargill finished in a tie for 14th-place with a 152.
American Southwest Conference rival Texas-Dallas finished in a tie for third-place with Louisiana College after both teams finished with a combined 611. Jacksonville Community College finished out the top-five with a 613 team score.
Texas A&M-Texarkana and Oklahoma Wesleyan finished in sixth and seventh respectively, while Mississippi College finished in eighth-place.
Texas A&M-International and host team LeTourneau finished out the team finishers in ninth and tenth-place.
St. Thomas' Zach Cabra won the individual title, just beating out teammate Sean Kennedy and Oklahoma Wesleyan's Cody Price by one stroke.
The UT Tyler men will now prepare for the 2013 ASC Championships, beginning Monday, April 15, in Lufkin.
