LONGVIEW, December 5, 2013-- LeTourneau University freshman Stephanie Vana (La Verne, Calif. / Bonita HS) of the women’s soccer team was named to the 2013 NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association of America)/Continental Tire NCAA Division III Women's All-West Region Third Team on Wednesday. Vana, who hails from LaVerne, California, was one of just four freshmen to earn this prestigious honor in the West Region.
Recently, she was named to the American Southwest Conference Second Team, for her efforts during the 2013 season. In her first season as a YellowJacket, she appeared and started all 16 games. She was a potent offensive threat for LeTourneau, sharing the team lead in goals with four along with Raylene Gould. She had a team-best two assists and was second on the team in shots with 21 and shots on goal with nine.
Vana joins prestigious company as Erica Sudeck, who in 2006, is the only other YellowJacket to earn similar recognition.
“It is definitely a significant honor to be named to the all-region team when you consider that the west region includes all of Texas and extend out to the entire west coast,” said LeTourneau University head women’s soccer coach Jamie Lindvall. “Vana is incredibly deserving and I am proud of the commitment and humility that she has shown in serving her team this season.”
