The No. 10 Linfield University softball team defeated LeTourneau University, 7-1 and 10-0 on Thursday at the LeTourneau University softball complex.

The Wildcats (17-1) had 13 and nine hits, respectively in the two wins. Linfield starting pitchers – Karina Paavola and Shelby VandeBergh – held LeTourneau to three and one hits, respectively.

The YellowJackets (8-12) were limited to five hits in the two games.

Game 1

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Linfield scored twice on a two-run home run. They added to their lead in the fifth on a RBI single for a 3-0 advantage.

LeTourneau mounted a comeback in the sixth as they loaded the bases to start the inning. With the bases loaded, senior Anna Winter recorded a RBI ground out to score Teressa Young, who had a pinch-hit single to start the inning. A strike out and pop out ended the threat.

Linfield scored four runs on a grand slam in the seventh.  Grace Middletadt and Katy Brosig each had three hits to lead a Wildcats attack that had 13 hits but they stranded 10 runners on base in the win.

Game 2

Linfield scored all of its runs in two innings – six in the second and four in the third – for the 10-0 run win over the YellowJackets.

Taylor Kaderli had a double in the third and Emily Ramsey had a single in the fifth for the two hits for LeTourneau.

Next, the YellowJackets will remain home and host Sul Ross State in a three-game ASC series that gets underway on Friday, with a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
