King's Academy heading to basketball state championship; Sendoff on Wednesday

TYLER, February 24, 2014-- Tyler King’s Academy, a member of the Texas Christian Athletic League (TCAL) has earned a #1 seeding in the 2A boys basketball state championship this weekend in Waco, Texas. The Knights won State back in 2012, and won 5th place last year.

The Knights season record is 19-5, and a perfect 8-0 in district play. The Knights clenched a regional championship on the way to a #1 seeding in this year’s tournament. The Knights had three players named First Team All-Region: Ben Flanders, Levi Taylor, and Luke Merrit.

The tournament will be played at University High in Waco, Texas.

Tyler King’s plays Houston’s School of the Woods at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, in the first round. If they advance to the semi-finals, they will play Friday, at 4:30 p.m., against the winner of their district rival Terrell Poetry, and Waco Live Oak. The Knights beat Terrell to clinch the regional championship 58-27.

The State Boys 2A TCAL Championship is Saturday at 1:30pm at University High in Waco, Texas.

King’s Academy will have a team send off as they depart for Waco on Wednesday, at 2:15 p.m.

The campus is located at 604 W. 4th Street (Trinity Baptist Church), in Tyler.
