Houston Co. 4H Shotgun Team does well at Championships, bids farewell to coach

HOUSTON CO., July 26, 2013--The past week of July 15-20, Houston County 4H Shotgun Team competed in the Texas State 4H Championships held at the National Shooting Complex in San Antonio, Texas. There were over 900 competitors from across the state. Houston County 4H Shotgun Team was well represented by sending competitors for many of different age classes.

Senior II class shooters, Wyatt Logan and Chase Hutcherson were in a 6-way tie for 1st place in Skeet scoring 99/100. After the shoot-off, Wyatt Logan placed 3rd and Chase Hutcherson placed 6th.

Catherine Dean took 2nd place in American Trap after a shoot-off

Senior I Class Shooter, Paige Shearer took 1st in Sporting Clays, Runner-up in Shotgun Shootout HOA (Highest Over All) and 3rd in Gun Smoke HOA.

Rowdy Furrh and Paige Shearer placed 2nd in two man team American Trap.

Intermediate Class Shooter, Darren Heady won 1st in American Trap.

This tournament was tough the club, who lost their coach, David Williamson, at the beginning of the tournament to cancer. The club knows he was proud of all of them because he told them and they can only pray that he knew how much they loved him. 

The Houston County 4H Shotgun Team will be hosting a Memorial Service for Coach David Williamson on Thursday, August 1, at 6 p.m. It will be held at the Shooting range located on CR 4505, just off of US 287 South. All shooters, past and present are welcome to attend as well as friends.

Comal County 4H also held their annual shoot the weekend prior to the State Championships and Houston County 4H Senior I shooter, Victoria Logan won HOA.  Senior II Courtney Freeman was runner–up HOA.
