TYLER, November 25, 2013-- The UT Tyler men's basketball team dropped a non-conference matchup with Hendrix, 71-63 on Saturday afternoon on Alumni Weekend. In the loss, Byron Randle scored 15 points off-the-bench to lead the Patriots offensively.
After the team battled to a 13-13 tie at the 11:52 mark, Hendrix (3-1) went on a stunning 23-7 run to close out the first half, taking a 36-20 lead at the half.
In the first 20 minutes, the Patriots (1-1) shot just 20-percent (6-30) from the field, while the Warriors shot 48-percent.
UT Tyler was able to claw back in the second half, but could not close the deficit to more than five points the rest of the way.
Tyler Hysell closed the gap to 48-43 with 9:59 remaining in regulation, but Hendrix was able to hold off the Patriots, the remainder of the game, winning 71-63.
Point guard Bryce Kemp joined Randle in double-digits, scoring 13 points on the night to go along with two assists and two rebounds.
The Patriots' bench was active in the game, scoring 30 total points in the loss.
Both teams were almost even in the rebounding department; with Hendrix taking the 37-36 lead in that department.
UT Tyler will have a few days off for the Thanksgiving break before opening American Southwest Conference play against Ozarks on Saturday, November 30 in Arkansas.
