Hallman leads charge as men take first in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, April 9, 2014-- Buddy Hallman shot a final-round 72, helping to vault the UT Tyler men's golf team to a first-place finish at the West Region Invitational on Tuesday.  Hallman finished in a tie for first, shooting a combined 221 in the three-round tournament.

Hallman, a sophomore, notched his second first-place finish in-a-row, playing his best golf at the right time with just a week until the conference-championship.

Teammate Chapman Herwood finished in sixth, shooting 76-74-77=227 for the tourney, while Alex Trivanovich finished two strokes back with a 229 (73-78-78).

Freshman Cody Gilbert finished in 12th, shooting 77-79-78 while Dayton Cargill finished in a tie for 17th with a 238.

As a team, the Patriots shot a combined 905, four strokes in front of runner-up Schreiner.

Southwestern (932) finished in third as a team, while Hardin-Simmons (942), Texas Lutheran (948) and Trinity (950) rounded out the rest of the teams.

UT Tyler will now prepare for the 2014 American Southwest Conference championships which begin on Monday, April 14, in Glen Rose at the Berry Creek Golf Club.
