Hagan YMCA Lone Star State Champ

PALESTINE, August 4, 2014— Fifteen Palestine YMCA Piranhas competed July 24-27, in the Lone Star 2014 YMCA Texas State Championship at the Frisco ISD Natatorium in Frisco, Texas.  The Dallas Metropolitan YMCA hosted nearly 800 swimmers from across the State of Texas and YMCA teams from New Mexico, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. 

Everyone who attended had to match or swim faster than the qualifying times for each individual event. The championship featured morning and afternoon preliminary qualifying rounds.  The top sixteen in each event vied for top honors and earned points for their teams in consolation and championship finals during the evenings. 

Leading the Piranhas was Summer Hagan (14) with a gold medal performance and best time by more than a second in the Girls 13 – 14 50 yard backstroke (31.99).  She brought home bronze medals in both the 50 yard freestyle and the 100 yard freestyle.  Hagan finished among the top eight in the 50 yard breaststroke, the 50 yard butterfly, the 100 yard Individual Medley, the 100 yard backstroke, and the 200 yard freestyle.  

Madison Crader (12) placed third in her specialty the 50 yard breaststroke (37.09).  She placed fourth in the 100 yard breaststroke and in the 50 yard freestyle. She was among the top fourteen contenders in the 50 yard butterfly and the 100 yard Individual Medley.

Braedon Harris (9) surprised everyone with top sixteen finishes in the Boys 9 – 10 50 yard butterfly, the 50 yard backstroke, and the 100 yard freestyle  Harris also contributed to the sixth place finish of the Boys 11 - 12 200 yard Medley Relay comprised of Alex Hassell (11), Sam Veneris (12), and Chase Fields (11).

Fields had a good weekend too by earning top sixteen honors in the 50 yard breaststroke, the 100 yard butterfly, and the 200 yard freestyle. 

Eighteen year-old Eli West completed his Lone Star run with top sixteen placement in both the Boys 15 -21 50 and 100 yard butterfly—as did Kacie Kimbrough (11) in the Girls 11 -12 50 yard butterfly and the 50 yard backstroke.

Grace An George, Savanna Harris, Jacob Hatfield, Taylor Rosson, Sydney Veneris, and Ian West rounded out the Piranha roster.
