Golf teams finish play at Jekyll Island Invitational

TYLER, March 18, 2013— The UT Tyler golf teams finished their Spring Break trip to Georgia, taking part in the prestigious Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational on Sunday.  The women finished in fifth-place while the men finished the tournament in 16th-place.

For the ladies, freshman Laura Lindsey finished in a tie for seventh-place, firing a 238 for the tournament, finishing 10 strokes off the lead.

Katie Crawford finished in 28th-place with a 246 for three rounds, while teammate Taylor Sloane finished in a tie for 34th after finishing with a 247 for the tournament.

The women's team finished in fifth-place out of 21 teams for the tournament, 30 strokes off of team winner, and American Southwest Conference member Mary Hardin-Baylor who shot a combined 954.

For the men, the Patriots finished 45 strokes off the leader, Illinois Wesleyan.

John Dukes was the highest finishing Patriots, tying for 45th place after firing a 230 for the three rounds, while teammates Dayton Cargill and Joey Rippel both finished in a tie for 57th with a 232.

The ladies wil have a few days before taking part in the Hal Sutton Invitational in Bossier City, La. on March 25, while the men will play on the same day in the Texas-Dallas Spring Invitational in McKinney.
