Five YellowJackets earn recognition from ASC

LONGVIEW, November 13, 2013— Five members of the LeTourneau University men’s soccer team were recognized by the American Southwest Conference for postseason honors, the ASC Office announced Tuesday, Nov. 13, after a vote of the league’s head coaches.

Sophomore defender Xavier Scarlett (Abilene, Texas) and graduate student forward Patrick Tchekane (Douala, Cameroon) were named to the Third Team.

Scarlett, a two-year starter, has been a key defender for the YellowJackets. He logged a team-best 1,489 minutes with an assist as well as a shot on goal to his credit in 2013.

Tchekane returned to the pitch and scored five goals to share the team lead with Adam Schultz in 2013. He came off the bench to play 15 games and averaged 1.27 shots per game.

Senior defender Eric Reyes (Guatemala City, Guatemala), senior midfielders Hunter Hembrough (Longview, Texas) and Edwin Raudales (Hurst, Texas) were selected Honorable Mention.

Reyes played in 13 games, starting 13 as the YellowJackets’ center back organizing the defense throughout the season.

Hembrough played in 19 games and started 18 during his senior campaign. He was second on the team in minutes played (1,331) and scored go-ahead goals against East Texas Baptist (Sept. 26) and Texas-Tyler (Nov. 2).

Raudales participated in 16 games, starting 15 for the YellowJackets. He scored game-winning goals against Hendrix (Oct. 8) and Ozarks (Oct. 12).
