RICHARDSON, July 23, 2014— Six teams will be facing each other in 2014 for the American Southwest Conference football championship and East Texas Baptist University has been picked to finish fourth. ETBU received 44 points in the poll by the head football coaches, media, and sports information directors of the ASC.
“We are excited for new season in year two but I don’t really feel that we have earned the fourth place vote in a highly competitive conference after our performance in 2013,” says head coach Joshua Eargle. “We have a lot of new opportunities and challenges that lie ahead of us this year and we are looking forward to it.”
The 44 points that ETBU was awarded was three points better than Howard Payne (5th) followed by Sul Ross State in sixth place. Mary Hardin-Baylor is the favorite with 95 points followed by Louisiana College’s 79 points. Hardin-Simmons was picked third with 59 points.
The 2014 season is the 19th in ASC history and ETBU travels to Texas A&M-Commerce for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff on September 4, to start the new season. The NCAA Division III Football Championship playoff is scheduled for a Nov. 22 start, with the Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl national championship game on tap for Dec. 20, in Salem, Va.
