LUFKIN, February 8, 2014— What, exactly, constitutes art – and how do friendships survive the inevitable disagreements over the subject?
Angelina College Theatre will address the topic presented in Yasmina Reza’s “Art”, the Tony Award-winning play scheduled for a three-night run at Temple Theater on the AC campus.
The show opens on Thursday, February 13, and runs through Saturday, February 15. All performances begin at 7:30 p.m.
Reza’s comedy focuses on three friends, Maggie/Marc (Bethany Knox), Stephanie/Serge (Kindle Bonner) and Yvonne/Yvan (Deanna Denman) whose relationship suffers cracks when Serge purchases an all-white painting – leaving his friends both horrified and stupefied at his supposed taste in “art”.
Playwright Reza, a former actress, has said she based the dialogue from the play on actual conversations with her own art-loving friends. The play’s first English-language version featured renowned actor Albert Finney; later, the Broadway version would boast Sean Connery as a producer and Alan Alda as one of the cast members. The 1998 version received the Lawrence Olivier Award for best comedy.
AC Theater instructor Kary Raine leads the cast and crew members including Tyler Arnold (Assistant Director), Christian Specht (Lighting/Production Design), Kase Montes (Stage Manager/Sound Design), Logan Mosig (Assistant Stage Manager), Jessi Hampton (Set Design), Nancy McClelland (Costume Design), Retha Powers (Properties Master), Joshua Weintrob (Sound Board Operator), Ashleigh Knox (Light Board and Projection Operator), Benjamin Conley and Clint Davis (Running Crew) and Theater Lab Students (Electricians and Carpenters).
Tickets are $5 for adults and $4 for seniors and students.
