LUFKIN, April 15, 2014— The Angelina College Cheer Squad will be holding tryouts at 10 a.m., on Saturday, May 17, and Saturday, June 14, inside Shands Gymnasium on the AC campus.
The tryouts are for those prospective AC students interested in earning scholarship money while performing for the squad beginning in the Fall of 2014.
The Cheer Squad offers opportunities for athletes with former cheer and tumbling experience and helps with defraying tuition costs, earning Physical Education credits and representing the college in the East Texas community by performing public services on behalf of Angelina College.
Cheer coach Isaiah Harvey will work to create a Cheer Squad group to perform spirit-filled cheers, stunts and dance routines for Angelina College basketball games. Uniforms and practice clothing are provided by the college.
Those participating in the tryout must be admitted to Angelina College prior to June 1. Students on disciplinary or scholastic probation are ineligible. Each Cheer Squad member must maintain a course load of 12 hours or more during the fall and spring semesters; and member must establish and maintain a cumulative grade point average in accordance with the scholastic requirements of the College as stated in the General Catalog. In addition, each Cheer Squad member must be prepared to attend practices, clinics and camp during the summer, participate in community service activities and accept all responsibilities of the position.
Applicants must print and complete the application located on the AC web site (www.angelina.edu/Cheer/cheer_squad.html) and submit to Harvey by June 1, 2013. Applicants will need to be prepared to learn a cheer and performing tumbling passes. Only those with cheer and tumbling experience will be evaluated.
