Winter weather brings changes to Palestine holiday activities

PALESTINE, December 6, 2013— The Winter Weather advisory has caused changes in many holiday activities, as organizations attempt to consider the safety of guests and travelers in light of their holiday plans.

Palestine’s Frost Fest has undergone some last-minute changes as the forecasted weather became cause for concern. Frost Fest activities that are still scheduled as planned include the Freeze Your Buns 5K, the Historic Home Tour, trolley rides, and ice skating. The ice skating is dependent on the weather. “If there is rain the skating rink cannot be opened due to safety concerns,” said Marc Mitchell Executive Director of the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce.

Registration is still open for the Freeze Your Buns 5k, and interested participants can register at the event. Registration opens at 7:30am at the Palestine Area Chamber of Commerce office located at 401 W. Main Street in Palestine.

The Tour of Homes is still scheduled to take place. The tour takes place from 3:00pm to 6:00pm and will feature 4 homes. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased at the Chamber office or at the homes. Ticket holders will also be shuttled to the homes in a trolley.

Events that have been postponed include the Snow Tubing Hill, Frosty’s Beer Garden, contests, entertainment, and peddlers. The Snow Tubing Hill and Frosty’s Beer Garden will take place on December 20th, and the other activities will take place on December 21st.

The deadlines for the contests have been extended. The Holiday Decorating Contest application deadline has been extended until Friday, December 13th. First place is $500. Applications can be picked up at the Chamber office, or downloaded on the Frost Fest website, Palestinefrostfest.com.
