Westwood ISD holds meetings to discuss school security measures

PALESTINE, January 7, 2013—Westwood ISD will hold two meetings to discuss school safety and additional security measures.

On January 14, at 6:30 p.m., Westwood ISD will have a regular School Board meeting. In addition to discussing normal business, the Board will look at, and discuss, a policy currently employed by Harris ISD, which allows specific members of school staff to receive training and licensure to carry a concealed weapon on school property.

On January 28, at 7:00 p.m., Westwood ISD will hold a Town Hall meeting at the Elementary School cafeteria. Parents and members of the community are encouraged to attend and offer suggestions on ways to improve school security.

Westwood Superintendent Dr. Ed Lyman spoke with KYYK’s Gary Richards about the meetings. Click below to hear interview.
