Westwood ISD Board approves new phonics, reading program

PALESTINE, June 12, 2014— The Westwood ISD School Board has approved a new phonics and reading program, according to Westwood Superintendent Dr. Ed Lyman.

The multi-modal instruction, called Super Kids Phonics, will be implemented in grades Pre-K through 2, although the same principals will be the basis for instruction through grade 6.

“The key thing we’re looking for is to unify and standardize the phonics and the reading instruction from classroom to classroom and from grade level to grade level,” said Dr. Lyman.

The $63,792 it will take to implement the program will be covered by federal funding.

KYYK’s Gary Richards spoke with Dr. Lyman about the new program. Click below for more.
