TYLER, January 10, 2014-- The University of Texas at Tyler Meadows Gallery will feature the 2014 International Exhibition beginning Monday, Jan. 13, Ray Sikes, gallery coordinator, announced.
Dean Daderko, curator of the Contemporary Arts Museum in Houston, served as this year’s juror. He will present a lecture about his selections for the exhibition during a reception, which will be 6 – 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 23, at the gallery.
“There were 27 works chosen with more than 250 entries. All of the work submitted was of a very high quality, and the competition was vigorous,” Sikes said. “The chosen artists are from all over the U.S. and represent New Mexico, New York, Louisiana, Florida, Arizona, Iowa and Texas. Since it is an international competition, we had entries from as far away as Australia and France.”
The exhibition will continue through Friday, Feb. 14.
The Meadows Gallery is located in the UT Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and by special appointment.
Formerly an independent curator, Daderko joined CAMH as curator in July 2011. He has mounted curatorial projects in Buenos Aires, Argentina; Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and Vilnius, Lithuania, among others. He has organized shows for some of New York’s most well-known alternative art spaces, including Art in General, Artists’ Space, Visual AIDS at La MaMa La Galleria and The Kitchen. Daderko was appointed critic in painting/printmaking at Yale University in 2010.
He holds a bachelor of fine arts in sculpture from Temple University’s Tyler School of Art.
