TYLER, June 10, 2014— Dr. James Lumpkin has been named the F.M. and Fannie Burke professor and dean of the College of Business and Technology at The University of Texas at Tyler, effective June 15, Dr. Alisa White, provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, announced.
He will follow Dr. Jerry W. Gilley, who is the UT Tyler professor and Department of Human Resource Development chair and has served as interim dean since July 2013.
“Lumpkin has excellent industry and academic experience, as well as an extensive track record of building programs, mentoring faculty and fundraising,” White said. “Let me also offer deep appreciation for the strong leadership provided by Dr. Gilley, who served with distinction as interim dean. Please join me in thanking Dr. Gilley and welcoming Dr. Lumpkin to campus.”
Lumpkin joins UT Tyler from Louisiana Tech University, where he is dean and Chase Bank professor in the College of Business.
Prior to serving Louisiana Tech, Lumpkin was dean of the College of Business Administration of Oklahoma State University and dean of the Foster College of Business Administration at Bradley University in Illinois.
He holds a master of business administration and bachelor of science degrees, both from Stephen F. Austin State University as well as a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Arkansas. He also has authored or co-authored a textbook and more than 80 journal articles.
