Upper Lake alligator captured; Lake reopened

PALESTINE, May 19, 2014--The alligator in Palestine’s Upper Lake has been captured, and the lake reopened to the public, according to Palestine Parks and Recreation Department’s Roy Crouch.

The lake had been closed since April 30, after Palestine PRD verified multiple citizen sightings of the alligator. Palestine PRD hired a harvester out of Rusk, to capture the animal. After studying the area and animal’s behavior, looking for patterns and possible nesting sites, the 10’1”, 310 pound alligator was captured on Friday evening.

The lake was reopened earlier this morning.

KYYK’s Gary Richards spoke with Crouch about the issue. Click below for more.
