ANDERSON CO., September 18, 2013--UPDATE: Preliminary autopsy results indicate no foul play was involved in the death of the man found under the Neches River Bridge on Tuesday.
The body, found by Texas Department of Transportation mowing crews around 12:00 p.m., under the bridge along U.S. Hwy 79. Authorities treated the scene like a crime scene and began an investigation into the matter as the body was sent for autopsy.
Although the identification of the man is still unknown, Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor says preliminary autopsy results do not indicate foul play. “We do not have the full autopsy results – we don’t have those back, and, of course, we have not positively identified him,” said Sheriff Taylor. “But we do not believe, at this point, that foul play was involved.”
Initial reports of the incident asked citizens to call the Sheriff’s Office or Crime Stoppers if they had any information. According to Sheriff Taylor, the Crime Stoppers line has been overwhelmed with calls from citizens concerned about the possibility of foul play and public safety.
“We appreciate people calling, and their concerns, “said Sheriff Taylor. “But, like I said, we do not believe foul play was involved, so people can not call Crime Stoppers; we’re getting flooded with calls, and we do not believe foul play was involved in this case.”
