Update: First Street homicide suspect arrested

TYLER, July 3, 2013--Tyler Investigators have arrested the suspect for the Murder of Rodney Walker who was shot in his residence on July 1, 2013. The suspect is identified as Christopher Shane Wiley, age 39, of Tyler.

Wiley is charged with first degree Murder and was formally arrested in the hospital where he remains under protective custody.  Judge Kennedy signed the arrest warrant and set Wiley’s bond at $500,000.  Wiley will remain under protective custody until he is released from the hospital and transported to Smith County Jail.

 

Original Story Update 1:

TYLER, July 1, 2013--Tyler Investigators have identified the deceased victim as Rodney Earl Walker, age 52, of Tyler.  Walker’s body will be sent to Southwest Institute of Forensics in Dallas, for an autopsy.

The suspect, age 39, of Tyler, is currently in a local hospital in critical condition for an apparent attempted suicide.  His identity is being withheld at this time.

Investigators have determined that the two subjects have known each other for some time.

This case remains under investigation.

TYLER, July 1, 2013—This morning, at approximately 3:05 a.m., police responded to a welfare check at 311 E. First Street, in Tyler.

Upon officer’s arrival, a male subject was found inside the residence, deceased from an apparent gunshot wound.

The suspect is known, but no names are being released at this time. This incident is still under investigation. More information will be released as it becomes available.
