Update: Benefit account established for Anderson Co. Deputy injured in accident

ANDERSON CO., July 7, 2014— UPDATE: An underlying medical condition has been found to be the cause loss of consciousness for an Anderson County Deputy last week, which resulted in the Deputy becoming involved in a one-vehicle accident, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.

Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputy Donnie Myers remains hospitalized after a medical issue on July 2, caused loss of consciousness and resulted in his vehicle leaving the roadway, crashing through a fence at the First Presbyterian Church, and running into a second fence.

Deputy Myers also sustained multiple injuries as a result of the accident, including several broken vertebrae.

A benefit account has been established for those who wish to make a donation to assist Deputy Myers and his family with medical expenses. Those wishing to donate may give to the Deputy Donnie Myers Jr. Benefit Account at Prosperity Bank in Palestine.

ANDERSON CO., July 3, 2014— An Anderson County Deputy remains hospitalized after a one-vehicle accident which occurred on Wednesday, according to D.P.S. Trooper Ricky Jones.

According to Trooper Jones, Anderson County Sheriff’s Deputy Donnie Myers was on-duty and driving eastbound on Spring Street when he became unconscious and lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway, crashing through a fence at the First Presbyterian Church, and running into a second fence where it came to rest. It is unclear what caused Deputy Myers to lose consciousness.
