Unlocked doors a major factor in recent car burglaries

PALESTINE, July 25, 2013--The City of Palestine has experienced a recent increase in the amount of reported auto burglaries. According to Palestine Police Chief Robert Herbert, a major factor in the auto burglaries is unlocked vehicle doors.

Chief Herbert says unlocked doors act as an invitation to burglars to open the car, rifle through belongings, and remove any items of value. “Please, please, take time and make sure that your doors are locked,” said Chief Herbert. “Be more cautious of that, be more aware…and help us out that way.”

KYYK’s Gary Richards spoke with Chief Herbert about the issue and about the progress of Citizens on Patrol. Click below to hear interview.
