Tyler Police arrest suspect after fleeing scene of crash

TYLER, July 18, 2013--Tyler police responded to WSW Loop 323, and Jacksonville Hwy., around 12:15 p.m., today, on a report of a multiple car crash in the intersection.

The driver who caused the crash was later identified as Daniel Massad, age 25, of Tyler. Massad was driving a Dodge pick-up east bound on loop 323. According to police, he ran a red light at Jacksonville Hwy., striking a vehicle in the intersection.  Massad also struck a second vehicle waiting in traffic after the first impact.

Massad exited his vehicle and fled the scene on foot into a nearby industrial park area.  Officers set up a perimeter and located him exiting a heavily brushed area 30 minutes after the crash.

Massad was placed under arrest for Hit and Run, Evading Arrest and Possession of Controlled Substance (Methamphetamine) that was located in his vehicle.

There were no serious injuries in the wreck and no one was transported to a hospital.
