TYLER, August 16, 2013--On August 15, around 9:25 p.m., Tyler Police officers were dispatched to the Super One grocery store, located at 3828 Troup Hwy, on a report of a robbery.
Before officers could arrive, they were informed the suspect, later identified as David Vanausdal, age 23, of Tyler, had fled the scene. The report indicated Vanausdal had been seen driving southbound on Troup Hwy., in a silver Toyota Solara.
When officers arrived, they learned the victim had met with Vanausdal to sell him the Solara. During the meeting, the victim realized Vanausdal was attempting to fraudulently purchase the vehicle. At this time, a struggle ensued.
According to the victim, Vanausdal used mace and forced the victim and his family to exit the vehicle, and then drove away in the vehicle.
Later, a Smith County Deputy Constable alerted officers that Vanausdal had been located at a Food Fast convenience store on Hwy 64 West. Officers responded to the convenience store and discovered Vanausdal was still in possession of the victim’s vehicle.
Vanausdal was arrested for Robbery and transported to the Smith County Jail.
