TYLER, March 28, 2013-- Dhruv Narayanan, a junior at Robert E. Lee High School, was selected to participate in the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) High School Aerospace Scholars (HAS) Program.
Dhruv will attend a summer workshop where he will study math, science, engineering, and computer science while interacting with engineers, astronauts, and scientists at the NASA Johnson Space Center in Houston.
In addition to the summer workshop, the HAS Program provides a distance learning experience with various web-based activities.
“Dhruv is well deserving of this exciting opportunity. He has worked very hard and feels honored to have been chosen to be part of the program,” Robert E. Lee Counselor Celia Tucker said. “His eyes light up when he talks about the coursework he is currently completing and feels he will gain so much from the hands-on experience he will have at NASA this summer.”
Each year approximately 800 students apply for the program, and through a competitive process, 250 are selected by their state legislator to participate. Students who are selected must be high school juniors with an interest in mathematics, science, engineering or computer science.
Dhruv has another year to decide where he will attend college, but already plans to major in Mechanical Engineering.
