TYLER, February 18, 2014--Tyler ISD board of trustees is asking for the community’s input in the naming of two new facilities scheduled to open in the fall of 2015.
These facilities include a new middle school located near Three Lakes Road in south Tyler and a Career and Technical Education (CTE) Center located at the corner of Earl Campbell Parkway and Bennett Drive.
Board policy indicates facilities may be named after: a person who has served the District or community; a local, state or national heroic figure; or any local state or national geographical area. A person whose name is considered must have made a significant contribution to society and/or education, and the name should lend prestige and status to an institution of learning.
A recommendation has also been made to the Board to consider renaming Dixie Elementary School. The Board is seeking feedback from the community in this matter before moving forward with this request.
