Two-vehicle Sabine Co. accident results in fatality

SABINE CO., August 4, 2014— On August 3, at about 9:40 a.m., a two-vehicle crash occurred on FM 3121, approximately 4 miles east of Hemphill, in Sabine County. DPS Troopers responded to the scene and investigated the crash.

The preliminary crash investigation indicates that a 2007 Honda Element, driven by Madelyn Neumann Flowers, age 74, from Hemphill, was traveling north on FM 3121, in a curve when it crossed over into the oncoming lane of traffic. The Honda subsequently struck a southbound 2008 Nissan Altima, driven by Sonia Dunn Butler, age 73, also from Hemphill.

Butler was transported to LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, by Life Air Rescue where she was later pronounced deceased at 3:17 p.m. Madelyn Flowers was transported from the scene to East Texas Medical Center in Tyler, for treatment by Sabine County EMS.

Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. No additional information is available at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
