TVCC student injured in vehicle, pedestrian accident

ATHENS, August 29, 2013--A TVCC student was taken to the hospital yesterday morning after being struck by a truck as he was attempting to cross the street.

According to Athens Police Chief Buddy Hill, at approximately 7:45 a.m., on Wednesday morning, 18 year-old Ugonna Nwarie, a TVCC student, was attempting to cross Lakeside Drive, also known as FM 2494, when he was struck by a 1993 Ford Ranger driven by 66 year-old Clarence Tidwell of Athens.

The impact caused Nwarie to come off the ground, hitting the hood and then traveling over the vehicle where he landed on the pavement. He was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

According to police, Nwarie was in the crosswalk at the time of the accident. Police believe Tidwell’s vision may have been impaired by the sun. Tidwell was cited for Failure to Yield to a Pedestrian in a Crosswalk.
